A deck of 52 cards with Question on the front, Answer on the back. Use these cards for devotional purposes, memorization exercises, family reference points, or… come up with a crazy card game.

2. SEASONAL Booklets

Throughout the year we will release 12 booklets, which go deeper into a specific series within the catechism. The booklets will have activities, art, music, book recommendations, and more!

3. Worship Connection

During worship at Blacknall, we highlight 1 card per week during our Children’s Blessing. Catechism is meant to take place within the context of Christian community. Wherever you are, make sure you connect with others about how God is speaking to you.

About this SERIES

When children first consider what it means to be a Christian, the most clear and tangible example for many is, “we go to church!”

The questions in this series are about our church’s worship practices: baptism, gathering, scripture, sermons, and communion. These are clear and visible ways in which we walk with Jesus and important parts of our shared life. Yet, discerning the “why” beneath these things can get tricky! Hopefully the answers here can give you a starting point as you think about the “why” of church with your family.

There is a separate series in our card deck, called “Life Together” (Q40-43) that delves deeper into the intangible aspects of following Jesus in community. The answers to those questions are also important as we consider what it means to be the Church.

We pray these answers together can encourage your family as you follow Jesus in community with us.

About this Series

For this series, we are dealing with some of the most theologically potent concepts of the faith — justification, sanctification, regeneration, and faith versus work. We have taken these concepts, dropped the “Christianese”, and reworked them into a more accessible format. But the content and the Truth remains the same.

As you work through the questions here, our hope is that you see your own story and recognize the Holy Spirit’s presence in your own life. And also, that the work of the Spirit would continue! May this same Spirit guide you, comfort you, strengthen you, convict you, and lead you into

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Christ the Lord is Risen today! Alleluia!

As we celebrate Easter, center your family on this collection of questions surrounding the theme: “Jesus is Lord.”

The Book of Confessions PC(USA) reports: “At the heart of all confessions is the earliest confession of the New Testament church, ‘Jesus is Lord.’ Strictly speaking therefore, Christians confess not what but in whom they believe.” *

If this is true, then the particular questions in this guide, which specifically highlight Jesus’ Lordship, are among the most important for us to understand as Christians. If we see Jesus as Lord, then that challenges us to think about the entire world differently.

In later weeks we will cover different aspects of Jesus: both Jesus as servant and Jesus as Son. But if we can understand that Jesus is Lord first, then that will make his sonship and servanthood even more incredible.

So, over the next several weeks, we invite you to sit with these questions (these books, these songs, these activities) and ask the deeper question of how we can show with our lives that Jesus is Lord.
