Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God
Holy Spirit, living Breath of God,
breathe new life into my willing soul.
Bring the presence of the risen Lord
to renew my heart and make me whole.
Cause Your Word to come alive in me;
give me faith for what I cannot see;
Give me passion for Your purity,
Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me.
Holy Spirit, come abide within;
May Your joy be seen in all I do—
Love enough to cover every sin
in each thought and deed and attitude,
Kindness to the greatest and the least,
gentleness that sows the path of peace.
Turn my striving into works of grace,
Breath of God, show Christ in all I do.
Holy Spirit, from creation's birth,
Giving life to all that God has made,
Show your power once again on earth;
cause Your church to hunger for Your ways.
Let the fragrance of our prayers arise,
lead us on the road of sacrifice,
That in unity the face of Christ
will be clear for all the world to see.

Invocation
Holy Spirit, living breath of God, breathe new life into us so that we might have eyes to see you and ears to hear you. Till and soften the soil of our hearts and plant your word there, so that it might take root and bear fruit in us, and so that we might bear witness to the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Responsive Scripture Reading (read in unison)
Psalm 95
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
“Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,
as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
For forty years I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
Call to Confession
Psalm 95, this exalted hymn of praise, ends with a sharp warning: Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah and Massah. Let me tell you what happened at Meribah and Massah: The people were thirsty. Israel was journeying through the wilderness, and they had no water. Though God had miraculously delivered Israel from bondage to Pharaoh and brought them through the waters of the Red Sea, the people don’t seem to remember. Instead, when they encounter adversity, they grumble: “Is the Lord among us?” “Why did you bring us out of Egpyt?”(Ex. 17:1-7) When they encounter adversity they doubt that God is with them and that God is for them.
As our congregation enters the unfamiliar territory ahead, do we remember what God has done? Are we tempted to grumble and to put God to the test? Come, let us kneel before Him and confess our sins.
Prayer of Confession
Lord, we are quick to believe that you have abandoned us; the privations of the present consume us. We disregard the freedom you gained for us in Christ; we forget the many times you have provided for each one of us. Both our memory of the past and our understanding of the present are tragically distorted, diminishing Your goodness and magnifying our fears. Forgive us, Lord. We ask in the name of Jesus, who remembered your faithfulness and trusted in your provision, even unto death on a cross. By His Spirit at work in us, set us free again to follow you, even in the wilderness. In Christ’s name, amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Fear not, little flock. Our heavenly Father knows what we need: In the name of Jesus, we are forgiven.
Passing the Peace
May the peace of the Lord be with you.
Response: And also with you

Affirmation of Faith | Apostles Creed
We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word | David Dunderdale
Sermon Text: Hebrews 3:1-6
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
Communion Song | Worship Band
Come All Ye Pining
Lord, we adore thy boundless grace,
The heights and depths unknown,
Of pardon, life, and joy, and peace,
In thy beloved Son.
Come, all ye pining, hungry, poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never failing store
For every willing guest.
O wondrous gifts of love divine,
Dear Source of every good;
Jesus, in thee what glories shine!
How rich thy flowing blood!
Here shall your numerous wants receive
A free, a full supply;
He has unmeasured bliss to give,
And joys that never die.

Prayers of Thanksgiving & Intercession
Would you like to share a prayer request? Submit your request here.
(Read prayer requests from Blacknall members and ministry partners here.)
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
We praise You, Father, Son, and Spirit. You have established the church, on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets; you have made the crucified and risen Jesus, our chief cornerstone.
We ask, Lord, build your church. Fit together the living stones that are scattered through space and time to make a temple for Your Spirit, a monument to hope in the borderlands of longing.
We pray for the church universal and for the ones our church has sent out to share the gospel, especially _____________ ( insert prayer requests for missions partners this week).
We pray for the church in this country. As we remember the many who have died in conflict abroad during this Memorial day weekend, and we remember the many who have died in violence at home on the anniversary of the death of George Floyd, we pray: Come, Prince of Peace. Make Your church hunger for Your peace.
We pray for our congregation. We rejoice with those who rejoice, and we mourn with those who mourn.
We remember the many good gifts that you have given to this little flock. We thank you for the Blacknall family, who started this congregation; and we thank you for those men and women at the Erwin Mill who responded to Your gospel. We thank you for every pastor you have given to equip the people of Blacknall; we thank you for all the deacons and elders who have stepped forward to serve. We thank you for every person that has passed through this sanctuary- those who have been but a single Sunday and those have come for a lifetime. We thank you for Allan and for Betsy.
We pray together as you taught us...
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
Blessing of Allan & Betsy
Songs of Response | Worship Band & Congregation
Sing to Jesus
Come and see, look on this mystery
The Lord of the universe,
nailed to a tree Christ our God,
spilling His Holy blood
Bowing in anguish His sacred head
Sing to Jesus, Lord of our shame,
Lord of our sinful hearts
He is our great Redeemer
Sing to Jesus, honor His name,
Sing of his faithfulness
Pouring His life out unto death
Come you weary and He will give you rest
Come you who mourn,
lay on his breast
Christ who died, risen in paradise
Giver of mercy, giver of life
Sing to Jesus, His is the throne,
Now and forever,
He is the King of Heaven
Sing to Jesus, we are His own,
Now and forever,
Sing for the love our God has shown

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go
O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.
O light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.
O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
and feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.
O cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
and from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.
